Workshop Facilitator: Professor Chris Cullen
- The workshop will cover the basics of relational frame theory, which is the theoretical basis underpinning ACT, and will introduce the main elements of ACT together with some of the experiential exercises which relate to them. research data demonstrating ACT effectiveness will not be covered in detail; this can be easily accessed by anyone with a computer from various websites which I will mention during the workshop.
- Running alongside ACT is Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, which is an antidote to the notion that therapy can be a rule-governed, manualised enterprise. It is based on the idea that, even in the clinical space, clients exhibit clinically relevant behaviour, and this can be used to help the client to do things differently in their usual world (which, of course, the clinic most certainly is not).
