1.   Can you tell me what the BPS actually does?
With over 40,000 members, The British Psychological Society (BPS) is the representative body for psychologists and psychology in the UK. As a learned and professional organisation governed by Royal Charter our principle duties are to the country – in simple terms the Society is charged by the Crown with overseeing, in the public interest, psychology and psychologists. 2.   Is the Society’s ethics code on the website?
You can download the 'Code of Conduct, Ethical Principles and Guidelines' from the The Society section of the website. If you would like to receive a paper copy please email us at mail@bps.org.uk.
3.   I want to make a complaint against one of your members.
The Society produces a booklet called ‘Making a Complaint About a Psychologist’ which contains information on the Society’s complaints procedures. Please visit the Find a Psychologist area of the website (on the home page)for more information or email us at: mail@bps.org.uk to obtain a paper copy of the booklet.
4.   How can I contact the BPS webmaster?

5.   Approximately how many members does the BPS have?
The figure at the last annual report was 42000. This includes over 34000 full members of which more than 12000 are Chartered Psychologists.
6.   Does the Society run a professional indemnity insurance scheme?
An insurance scheme for members of the Society is run by an insurance broker called Towergate SMG http://www.smg-professional-risks.co.uk. The Professional Liability Insurance leaflet is a policy statement published by the Professional Practice Board to draw attention to the professional obligation of all Chartered Psychologists to ensure they are covered for third party liability against their actions as psychologists. 7.   Does the Society produce any information for psychologists who are thinking of entering private practice?
The Society publishes a booklet called ‘Private Practice as a Psychologist’ which you might find useful before starting out. It is available to download from the following location on our website: http://www.bps.org.uk/documents/Practice.pdf or if you would like to request a paper copy you can send an email to: mail@bps.org.uk. 8.   I am looking into joining the Society and wanted to know what does membership entitle me to?
